Western Cape Koi Show - South Africa

We are had a great show. Everybody worked so well as a team and we pulled a great one. Lots of room for improvement but all round it was fantastic. Standard of the koi was also incredible. I'll post some of my own ladies that performed and the other guys can post some of the site pics and pics of their boys and girls.

    I took the following trophies:
    Special variety: Shusui size 5
Supreme champ size 6 - Kuchibeni Kohaku
Supreme champ size 8 - Nidan kohaku (eye's pushed out quite a bit at the show which counted against her)
Supreme champ size 9 - My big lady kohaku (79cm)
Supreme grand champ A - Sanke size 8( she lost a scale in transport and jumped out of the transport vat at the show - Very traumatic but she pulled herself together and one the day she looked ok-ish)
    Supreme champ B - size 8 ochiba

Very happy with my ladies but the sanke jumping the vat was very scary and kinda freaked me out a bit!

Special for Mike, this Gin Goshiki was a big hit at the show. Stunning koi!

Our Chapter Chairman and show chairman won Reserve Grand Champ with this 80cm kohaku and jumbo champ with this 81cm showa. What a body on that lady!

The Sanke jumping only freaked you out "a bit"?
It would've freaked me out "a bunch"!

Looks like you had some excellent Koi in the competition and congrats to you for taking home some serious awards. I see several that really grab my attention.

Ok, it completely freaked my out!! To the point where I asked my self why show when all this can happen! I used a big Japanese style transport vat on the back of my truck with zippers etc. Cable tied the zipps all the way to the show. Got there opened the vat about 50% and started netting them one by one and taking them by sock net to the show vats. By about the 8th one while we were trying to net antoher the sanke just poped out under our noses. It happened so quick. She fell on the back flap of the truck and somebody grabbed her and ran for one of my show vats. She is a big girl and it was a long way and there was no way he was going to hold on to her so she dropped again and I guess that was when she sustained a bit of damage. She made it into the vat but there was a lot of blood comming out of her gills. We did a water change on the vat later that day as the water was not looking too good. By Sunday 3 of the 5 fish in that vat (excluding the sanke!) has a slight case of pop eye. (see pics of the one step kohaku and ochiba for the slight pop eye)Today they are almost back to normal and besides the one lost scale on the sanke there is no visible damage anymore. I'm feeding them a light diet of wheat germ for the rest of the week once a day to maintain optimum water quality and to keep the as comfortable as possible. Salt at .3%.

Which one is your favorite? Strangely the sanke was not a popular choice for a lot of the hobbiest. She did look rather 'beat up' as one of the judges put it.
