Once every two weeks??? I don't think I really get what you are looking for. If your water temps ramp up into the 90's I would certainly consider it for a time, but once every two weeks for ?? number of days I don't understand unless you are trying to burn down an egg mass.

what i meant was skip 1 day of feeding.

For what purpose? That's the part I'm still not getting.
Feeding for growth during summer months in order to bulk them up for the winter fast is the norm for most of us. Fasting during warm periods may be applicable in tropical regions to prevent egg impaction or fatty liver issues, but even then I don't think a day or two at a time would really accomplish anything. 2 weeks at a minimum would be my thinking to trigger those purposes.

There are many reasons to think about a shift in diet and maybe a fasting day or two.

    1) the weather- if it is too hot or too rainy, feeding only adds to water quality deterioration
    2) linked to 1 is the limits of the closed system and size of your fish. It does no good to cram food into fish if the environment is going to act as a negative feedback due to system design/size capacity.
    3) And finally ( and the thing you are eluding to) the concept of protein sparing is a very real one. After a while too much protein fools the body into thinking protein is ever persent and there is no need to store it or use it for growth. a short fast or better- the increase of the carbohydrate/protein ratio is a good thing as it swtiches the body metabolism on again to being growth. Not too mention that Dr Skinner proved that unpredictable feeding makes the 'subjects' more keen to eat aggressively after a change up in feeding pattern.

Yes, it probably works well, If you feed really heavy during summer season.

I'm still waiting for Moi to tell us HIS purpose instead of making us guess and assume. It could be great or it could be a waste, but it needs to have a stated purpose...

I heard that, was a statement that was made at a local meeting this past Sunday. A dealer was a speaker at the local meeting, and he was sharing his personal experiance and opinions, that he fast his koi once a week, and feeds vegtables 2 days a week and pellets the other 4 days. He also does not believe in fasting the koi for any length of time in the winter.
