    Home Bred Kohakus

Fortuitously my girlfriend had been keeping a close eye on the activities of our koi 2 months ago, one day our Matsue female kohaku spawned with our Yamatoya kohaku male, she managed to collect some of the fertilized eggs and placed them in a 200 gallon holding tank. We managed to hatch about 50 koi, and have been completely engrossed by their development. They are a hungry bunch

Here are some pics of them and a couple of pics of our favourite "Tiger".

You are lucky because you got a couple of Matuten patterned fry out of 50
Isn't it interesting to know the fact that heaviest patterned fry (Akamuji) in the herd have best Hi quality while whitish ones have weak hi quality ? Btw, the ones that look like Tancho won't be a real Tancho kohaku.

It is great fun, and the heron was part of the education too! We only have a small town garden, and to see him land and fish through a gap in the polycarbonate cover was amazing - I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes
