Of course, the best thing about KOI USA is that it is 'OUR' magazine- created for the koi community BY the koi community. Can't get closer to the core of the hobby than that. JR

The cover is not up yet on www.koiusa.com. The issue is 106 pages long.

The lead articile is "Breeder's Cup" from the Born in the USA series. The AKCA Board approved two American Breeders' Cup awards. One award is for a GC at a major show and the second award is for a GC "B" at a major show. At the ZNA Potomac show the GC B was a GR Showa bred by Nisei Koi Farm and owned by Dave Hicks. Picture of the winning fish is on the cover. The award will be presented at the AKCA Seminar in May in Nashville.

The other articles listed on the cover are:
    Fall Harvest - Japan
    Yagenji Yonsai Harvest
    ZNA Potomac
    Morikami 2009 Koi Show
    Artist Corner
    Visit Niigata
    Atlanta Koi Show

Of course there are many more articles than those listed on the cover. In his Ramblings column JR tells us what koi are....and what they are not.

BTW, if your local club has 100% subscription rate to KOIUSA, you club basically gets its AKCA dues back. And of course as a member of a local AKCA club, you get a discounted KOIUSA subscription. Please discuss details with your club's AKCA Director.
Koi keeping is not a belief system; it is applied science with a touch of artistry.

Hi Dinh, yes I'm sure there is only one koi community. As a social butterfly, you might see that as exclusive or too directly defined. But there is only one koi community that revolves around one koi culture. It flowed and continues to flow from Japan and morphs as it hits the cultural barriers and differences amongst and between countries. But the true essence of koi is from a culture of understanding- and that is a real thing. I think it is natural human huberous to believe that once they are on the scene, things should change to meet their expectations. But expectations are relative to perspective and that is relative to experience.
Each of the world organizations ( AKCA BKKS, South Africa federation, Holland and its several organized organizations, Hong Kong, Taiwan and a dozen other countries) comes from the idea of Japanese Koi which has formed a culture over the last 40 years.
The Internet past time is either an extension of those real societies or a simple and convenient form of communication. So if you are suggesting the internet is a koi community, it is transient - meaning short lived and passing. Often based on the success of a single business or a key person. The koi culture on the other hand is bigger than any one of us. It is a rallying point and a treasure trove of information, everything else is 'on the outside looking in'. IMHO, JR

There is a bit of additional information to add to the article on the Morikami Show. The Grand Champion B is co-owned with Carolyn Swanson, who raised her for all but a few months prior to the show. My contribution was not messing her up for the season in my care.
