Nisei Koi Farm: B.E.T.N. Progress Shots

There are some progress photos posted in the NKF blog. Some will recall that I was captivated last Fall by a nisai Showa with atarashi sumi, a future four-step pattern and a body form that borrows heavily from Matsunosuke Sanke. She seems to be doing well over this winter. Here is '85' from October and then in January. Interesting and sometimes subtle progress. It's ridiculous how excited I can get over these silly fish.

I think you've addressed what truely is the fascination of Koi. And that is the progress they make in body shape, quality and pattern. The showa is beautiful and full of promise.

Year to year it's the joy of following the changes and NOT rushing ahead to the end result. Time enough for that.

I go thru a similar sense with my bonsai as they progress year after year in design and refinement, culminating in the repotting into a show pot and off for exhobition.

In both these cases our ability to provide optimum conditions for thier advancement leaves the ultimate responsibility in our hands once they come home from the breeder/nursery.

You've a good eye Mike and glad to see American Breeders getting the credit they deserve.
