    2010 All Japan major prize winners

    I've just got around to posting the pictures of the Sakura Prize winners from the 2010 All Japan Show meaning that you can now see all of the major prize winners.

    Great pics Mark, as always,... and so nice that you're posting the sex of the Koi. Nice to see so many incredible male Koi! Male Koi get so much inaccurately negative press here in the US.

    okay question on best in variety

    Koromo
    looks like a koromo showa so why in Koromo class? and not Kawarigoi (or even showa)
    LOVE THE KOI

    Yes it's a Koromo Showa.

    Koromo Showa are benched in Koromo class, simple as that.

    this is where i get confused with benching when you have 2 varieties in same name.
    others like goshiki showa and others

    Paul , In P. Waddingtons book Koi Kichi , he shows that a Koromo Showa would be classed as Kawarimono. It also states this is at time of printing (95'). I'll guess this could change with time , my guess you would be right in the States.

    Things vary from country to country, organisation to organisation and show to show.

    It isn't long ago that even in Japan Goshiki were benched as Kawarigoi before they got their own class. Likewise in the UK until they were moved to Koromo class. Here in Japan some metallics such as Kikokiryu are benched in Kawarigoi class whilst in the UK Kawarimono is for non metallics.
