    #141 Omosako Grow Out

I'm not accustomed to losing fish but I guess it has to happen to everyone some time.

I easily netted and bagged my #1 pick along with one of the Omosako "extras" that I bought. She was 20". I packed them in separate ice chests Sunday morning for the 30 minute ride to the new mud pond where we're moving. They were fine.

When I opened her box she had bled out, the water was blood red. Right or wrong, I made the decision to let her out without adjusting the water temp to get her out of that water. There was a noticeable difference in temp. Monday, she was dead. The other fish is fine.

I'm not sure what happened but I'm thinking she must have had a heart attack. I feel bad because if we didn't have to move, she'd still be alive. I was really interested in learning from her because she was almost school bus yellow with inky black sumi. I was told she would turn snow white once she had eggs.

I think the last time I lost a fish was about 8 years ago and it was a new arrival.

I really hate to hear that. Some fish don't seem to suffer moving stress at all while others bleed the moment they see a net. Hard to predict what they'll do until its too late.

I've netted her many times for measurements and she's never bled. If she would have started bleeding when I netted her or had her in the tub, I wouldn't have moved her that day. She didn't do it until she was in the ice chest and closed up. It's strange.

It is weird. We've had several that used to bleed when handled at all who haven't had a negative reaction like that in years. I've only had one bleed in a bag and it was just enough to tint the water a bit. I really don't know what you could have done to predict or prevent this from happening. Sad.
