I like this one, including the pattern. It looks male to me. If female, I would like to have her. I think she would have a very strong body. But, it does look male to me.

It's interesting to see these fish for me, as a student of nishikigoi. It shows how the male fish is changing from the prototype male of just ten years ago. It used to be very easy to tell a male from the markers of maleness - the pec fins shape, the TYPE of shiroji amd especially the beni which matures and finishes quicker in a male ( those boy hormones bring males to breeding capability long before their sisters).

These fish of today have many female traits in their color. But no breeder has repealed the nature dimorphisim of the species. male fish have a look to the body line and a shiroji that is very bright ( mostly hard white).

The fish has an excellent show pattern and should do well in a koi show up to around 24 inches. I'd buy it if that is your aim but don't pay too much as males do not have the same potential future as females and therefore don't have or hold value. How much are they asking? JR

Interesting. pretty old line of kohaku and legendary for it's time. Tomoin look very soft ( Dainichi - more modern look, became more popular tho) but I'm surprised to see it on a male. JR

Dan, she's very nice. I love the pattern. She has a nice wide shoulder, even, deep Beni and great Odome.

    I'm betting she's a she.

I'll take that bet that it is 100% MALE... Very nice male fish...

    Sex of this kohaku

I am now told by the breeder of this very nice kohaku, she is 100% guaranteed female. Can anyone venture a guess of breeder?

Looks like a domestic to me. I'll buy it-- consider it sold. I'll grow 'her' for a year. JR
