    Interesting koi variety for discussion

I have owned this koi for several years. I took her to the koi show in Greenville this weekend and there was a lot of discussion about what variety she actually is and what her genetics might be. She was very popular among the show visitors! Her skin is light gray and metallic, very even in color and it never changes. Her beni pattern is bright and outlined in black. The sumi she does have has never changed at all. In fact, nothing about this fish's color or pattern have ever changed. Where her dorsal scales are against the gray skin, the scales are gray. Where they are against the beni, they are black. Her fins are the same light gray as her skin, with the pec fins being a being a bit darker. So what is she? The possibilities discussed are beni kikokuryo, kin kikokuryo, doitsu metallic goshiki and doitsu kujaku. Any opinions?

I would call it Beni Kikokuryu/Doitsu Kujaku mix as it has attributes of both. Kase and Aoki breed a mix of doitsu metallics together Yamata, Kikokuryu, and kujaku. This could be one of those.

actually i have been fortunate to see this koi all weekend.....and did provide for some great discussion......

some more details when viewed in person....

in the sun, the beni shows a nice golden tint, as does the sumi...

but narrowed it down a little more ray.....

i eliminated the doitsu kujaku because of the black in the pecs....

actually considered a kin kikokuryu because of the black in the pecs perhaps indicating the komonryo/kin showa cross...

but this was a great koi to view all weekend, and also have the oppertunity to discuss all weekend as well......i actually have some more pics and video her her to put up as well....

It looks like a Beni Kiko to me, as far as the image you have posted... Maybe sometimes the obvious answer given by an amateur could be it. Rather then over analyzing the whole situation.

    question
i see the beni is outlined with black like you see in a good doitsu ochiba?
is a beni kikokuryu or doitsu kujaku have same black outlining?

it is fun to keep a mixed up koi just to see what happens in future.
i am keeping one ugly koi just for kicks and discussion at shows

Sure is a beautiful koi. I had made a similar post regarding the differences between Doitsu kujaku and Beni Kikokuryu. Tough to tell.
