That's good point, Mike. there are perfect ones somewhere but not such like fish in my pond. so I had to compromise on the head & body structures.
we are not planning to create over 1m offspring so I guess it's OK.

My kohaku from Kagura parent are growing.... So many though.
That's the problem on kohaku breeding, Ryan. (in order to get good ones) you really need to raise all the fry you got till 1st senbetu...

Good eyes Junichi san.Yesterday we Kuroko senbetsu ( black fry selection/sorting) with the help of my daughter and son Kaitlyn and Dylan, we spended a hole day and only manage to selected half the fries. These are just some of the black fries. We will continous Kuroko senbetsu ( black fry selection/sorting) next weeken.
I am glad to know these 3 boys did their job well done (since hatching rate is depend on male(s) in most cases) and also glad to see Kaitlyn and Dylan enjoying the most interesting job of showa breeding -kuroko senbetsu-.

Chai-san, Nori-san, and me will be there for finishing the Kuroko senbetsu next weekend. How many grandchildren of the Dainichi Sakura we got this year........approximately 50,000? 100,000??

Ryan like Junichi san said in order to have a chance of get good one we would
have to keep them all untill first cull, but in back yard breeding we don't have the space to keep them all, just for fun and a little dream of getting a good one try to keep only amounts of fries for the space you have and the rest do what you like ?????? Can't wait to see your results.

    Hi Chin,

Congratulations on the very successful spawn! It's good to see the next generation helping out. You trained them well Brother! Hopefully, when my kids are old enough to help, they will be as eager as yours.

    Questions:
    1. What kind of tree branches did you use as spawning substrate? willow?
    2. Did you hatch them naturally without fungicide?
    3. What percent of frys are kuroko?

    Sunny

Thank you Sunny, They had so much fun doing it and they don't mine helpping their daddy out.
Yes that is willow branch. One good thing about willow brach is they don't
die and rot right away. you can actually grow them just from a cut brach.
yes they are natuarally hatch , because I don't like to ues any chemicals and I am guessing 40-45% Kuroko. So far they are eating and doing good.
Can't wait till their first cull. How's you breeding doing ???

And 10-20 nisai (female) tategoi by next spring,

and might be 1-2 future oyagoi hopefully.
