    Hi Junichi,
The Kohaku and larger showa are still looking to be developing. The smaller showa might be going the other direction?

Hmmmm.... How has the beni on 'my' little one been doing? I still like 'her', but the beni is a concern. Has it been retracting? I cannot tell from the first photos. I'm not too concerned by the paleness if there has not been any retraction.

Hi Ray, it getting cold, isn't it?
According to my limited experience in the past, the smaller showa is STILL fine, though it would change at any time during this stage... we will see.

The beni on "your" little one is OK, I 'd say it's good instead. Why???
Since the little one grew more than twice in length and 8 - 10 times in volume weight in just 30-40 days, there is no such a rapid growth period on entire koi's life, even though the beni is still there sticking on it.... that's what I think... otherwise, it should has gone, melted or broken up. I don't know what would happen tomorrow though.

    2010 kohaku breeding

My friend sent me a bunch of pictures of my kohaku's sisters & brothers.

Thanks Chin-san, Yes, they are improving compared to the past.

The difficulty with photos is that you have a one-dimensional view. So, the beni on the little one could be failing or it could simply be the immaturity of the pigment. As long as the beni is not retracting, I have no concern. In fact, I still like 'her' best. ...I went without any tosai to raise up this past season. I'll need to get a couple this Spring. I so missed watching them develop.

    Junichi,
Thank you for posting the photos and sharing the development of your baby koi. We do not get to see many photos of koi development before being a year old. This is very interesting. I hope you will continue to post photos of these koi as they develop.

    Happy New Koi year 2011

I took pictures of them a few days ago.

Typical growth style....Kohaku grow faster than Showa and Large one grows bigger than small ones....

    Kohaku 26cm/10"+

    Showa(L) 20cm/8"

    Showa(S) 15cm/6"
