    Trying to figure out our pond gallonage by use of salt

    We added 640 lbs of salt to our pond and our reading is .60 ppt - we want to figure how many gallons of water we have???

    We have heard that 3 lbs of salt, 100 gallons = .3%

    I went to Click2Roark and www.cnykoi.com/calculators/calcsalt.asp and I get a different reading

    Does anyone have the correct method of calculation?

    Hello Cricket . . .

    From what I learned from the online KHA course material,

    V = (p/t) * 12

    where

    V represents the pond volume in gallons
    p represents the amount of salt added in pounds
    t represents the total percent change in salinity

    So...in your case and assuming (I know ) that you started at .00 salinity,

    V = (640/.60) * 12 or 12,800 gallons.

    How does that compare to what the other two referenced sources show?

    Best wishes,

    On Roark's website his calculator came up with 13,600

    The cnykoi website came up with 13,580

    On my initial post I said 640 lbs but it was 680 lb of salt.

    So with your calculations, 680 divided by .60 x 12 = 13,600
    (If I did this correctly).

    Thanks for your reply.
