Purdin Showa - Question about balance

So is it important, that like the face, the barbels have all 3 colors in them?

Just thought it was kinda neat how balanced and matched the barbels were on this showa.

I don't know, Grant. That barbel on the left definitely needs more sumi to come in for balance - it just doesn't project that same sense of power. Good 'barbelodome,' however.

Too bad, it was such a promising fish... :^)

No, concerns would be how clean the pattern is and how it interacts with the rest of the pattern. Traditionally beni would be looked down on if it were on the barbels of a Showa...this is just a minor thing and how the judges would see it.

I have never seen a fish with all three colors on the barbels, and so even. Very neat. Pretty fish.

Thanks for the replies. To be honest I wasn't concerned about balance, I didn't think the barbels mattered (other than that they were present) for judging purposes. Thanks for the extra info Tony. I just noticed them the other day and thought how cool it was that all 3 colors were in them, and they were symmetrical as well!

I'm really happy with how she's developing. I'm hoping she's put on some size this summer. She certainly looks it. And yes, the sumi on her is second to none. I'm still hopeful some sumi may come out in her right pec fin to give her some balance, and there is sumi on her underside by the pec muscle so while I'm not holding my breath... there's hope.
