    Because Hikkui is not a disease, it is a condition. They have scaped and surveyed koi for KHV and also for carp pox. And in both cases, they came up with proteins and virus particles that lead to an identification of BOTH as viruses. They identifed them, classified them and KNOW them. BUT hikkui has been subjected to the same investigation and NO ONE has found a virus or a parasite, or a cancer cell, or a bacterium. It is a condition. and no one 'knows' hikkui the same way as KHV and carp pox and SVC.
    That is the ONLY thing that remains as a possiblity-- and I would postulate that it is an auto immune disease as is seen in MANY an inbred animal.

    That's pretty interesting. Any sense of how extensively this has been pursued by skilled research?
