Exactly Michael, thus my reasoning for going this route for my male pond.

I've known a hobbyist that hates the RDF bc of all the problems he had with it & guess what he used when he got rid of the rdf? That's right, a SIEVE!

We have one club member here that uses RDFs very successfully. But he builds and designs his own RDFs and programs the controls for the cleaning pumps..etcs. His company does robotics; so, an RDF for him is a piece of cake.

    I will stick with sieves.

FYI if anyone wants to know:

I am testing these fine mats inside the cetus chamber with 200 micron sceen and so far I like it very much. I know the real test will be in the summer with heavy feeding but for now water clarity is looking really good at 6.5' deep . I clean them one time per week or just pop another one in every three days and clean all of them on the weekend.

Lam, I don't mean to hijack your thread but just like to show you another type of filter mat in your long chamber to control fine and also what else you will catch after 200 microns.

Tom, so that fine mat doesn't interfere with Cetus' operation? Good idea, although, it defeats the strength of a seive: separating waste from water column?
