Interesting looking fish. 'Fix' that pattern and you have all the new rage -- 'Leopard Koi!'

More changes reveal the nature of this koi. Now a matsukawabake chagoi type mix

Were the two photos taken just a month apart?

Then it truly was a moment in time. I look forward to the next transformation.

When I first learned about Matsukawabake and Kumonryu changing with the seasons, the idea of having a continually changing koi captured my imagination. I really wanted one, but never did acquire one. I heard stories locally of such koi turning black and never regaining white after they matured. So, I held back. Now, my interests draw me elsewhere. Still, the changing aspects of young koi fascinates me.

When you see a mature kumonryu or matsukawabake with a nice balance of black and white, it is an extremely rare specimen for that reason and worthy of the appreciation of anyones pond.
