I often say that price is a matter of opinion. In this instance, I think it must also be a matter of ego. Congrats to SFF.

That's just my way of saying "what is so special with this koi?" And it could very well be a special kanji character. Many Chinese (and perhaps Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese...) consider koi to be good luck, and some would go to great length to acquire a koi with special patterns that have a meaning, hence price would reflect that value. But I could not see the character, even with a modern Chinese dictionary where I swipe the character strokes to see what word comes up.

Looking at the fish this would be something I would personally pass on because of the shape of the head.....What I am curious is who was the guy bidding against to mark up the price.....hhhhmmmm

These Auctions have been going on long enough and covered here from the Big 3 (Dainichi, Momotaro & SFF) that you would think at least one of these $100,000 + Nisai would have resurfaced and Won at a Major Show. Or could it be that Henry is holding out ?

Has any AJKS GC been sold and how much has it been sold and when? Would it be priced 10x this sanke?

It's been too long since a sanke won AJKS GC. In the last 10 years, kohaku and showa have dominated that spot. I think SFF has the caliber of sankes to win it. But I just don't see this fish being able to get that honor. Is it possible that the person who bought this fish is making an investment to use it as oyagoi?

I heard a story that the two English Gentlemen who Won GC at the AJKS (I believe 2006) was offered $360,000 for the Kohaku and turned it down. I also heard about $1,000,000 for a Koi but not connected with the AJKS. Both could very well be Fish Stories.

Word on the street is that the winner with the cash is from China.
