    Rest In Peace: Nobuo Takigawa

I just became aware that Nobuo Takigawa passed away in August at the age of 86. I do not believe any other koi hobbyist accomplished more in the hobby. Takigawa-san was the successor to Masao Kato as chairman of the Zen Nippon Airinkai. When health issues required him to step down in 2011, he was honored by being named honorary chairman. He was greatly respected and had great success in the show ring. He won Grand Champion at nine ZNA All-Japan shows... the 30th, 33rd, 35th, 36th, 37th, 41st, 42nd, 44th and 45th ZNA Koi Shows. The last in 2009 was held in his home town, Izumo. His koi were in contention for top honors for a period of over two decades. Some famous Koi that he owned were Matsue Nishikigoi Center's “Miko” (GC 2005), Momotaro’s “Bentley”, “Izumo Ryu”, “Ryujin” (GC 2009), “Yondan Mako” (oyagoi Sanke at Momotaro which was 107 cm at the 2011 ZNA show).

Within the past year there was an interview of him in Nichirin telling the story of his ponds and learning how he selected and raised koi. He was a remarkable and humble man.

I heard last week he had passed, great man and influence to ZNA and the koi community. He is one who has brought Sakai Hiroshima and Momotaro into the show light with his great fish....
