    Moving bead biofilter

    Should the air be on always in a moving bed bio filter or should you wait tel the filter gets its bio film

    Tun the air pump on and leave it on. Zero technical benefit to have it off.

    I started off the two Nexus units I had years ago with a low stocking rate and watched the water parameters closing for the first 6-8 weeks until the nitrite peaked and started down. They I slowly up the load that comes from larger amounts of food and higher protein levels of food. Only when the system was obviously handling the load did I up the stocking level.
