    Hi Mike,

I feed boiled barley with a couple of tablespoons of montmorillonite every couple of days as supplement to pellets and all the fresh salad

and veggie peelings which are fed as when available.

The string algae is collected out of the vortex strainers and pump basket, hosed off into the floating plastic lid of a road kill dirty washing

basket, which has a length of rubber refrigeration insulation cable tied to the perimeter of the lid to keep it buoyant.

My water has never gone pea/pee soup green since I started boiling it up and feeding it. I boil up 11/2 kgs at a time. feeding about 450

grams wet mix sort of every other day or so, but i do keep it on going. My water has green tinge. but it is never Gin clean.

I used Barley Straw year's and year's ago. This method is an easier option for me living in the city.

I do not use Montmorillonite with every batch.

    Cheers,

    Garfield.

When I feed boiled barley it sinks and my bottom drains clear a lot of it before the fish can feed. Is it important that the koi eat the barley? For example, has anyone tried suspending a bag of boiled barley in the pond or filter system instead and achieved good results?

    Thanks and regards

    Mike
