In the U.S. today is a special holiday, Thanksgiving Day. It is somewhat unique among holidays celebrated around the world. It is a day set aside to be thankful for the good things in life without being related to any particular religious or nationalistic occasion. Long before the U.S. was a country, it began as a feast day in the early 17th century when settlers of a wild hemisphere celebrated their survival. It became a tradition across the continent as brave settlers, often the poorest of the poor subsistence farmers, spread across the American continent to make a better life for themselves. It was celebrated on different days in different places until a uniform date was established in the 20th century and it became an official national holiday. Nearly 400 years after the tradition was begun by a small community of survivors, the commercialism that accompanies all holidays in contemporary times outwardly dominates. Still, the core remains. Whether for a few minutes, a few hours or a long weekend, all across the country families come together to share a meal and experience a renewal of family bonds, and express their thankfulness for family, friends, good health and material comfort. Those who cannot be with family will reach out by phone, skype or whatever means is at hand to give their best wishes and affection to family members and friends wherever they may be.

In that spirit, to all in the KB community of koikeepers around the world, I am thankful for you and wish all a happy Thanksgiving Day.

Thanks Mike. I already miss the turkey, the cranberry sauce, and the stuffing. I would die just for the supermarket version. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all!
