    Boring Kohaku

I suddenly realized something after looking at my last kohaku purchases. I am going after good blood lines from a reputable dealer but my selections are boring pattern wise. No fancy intricate designs. Just your basic 2 or 3 step large beni patterns that has to stop now. The beauty is in the pattern and I am missing the boat. Oh well.

LOL.... I understand what you are saying. Those incredible SFF GCs most often have superb classic patterns. At their super-jumbo size, they are as impressive as one could ever hope. The simplicity of classic patterns fits well on such behemoths. But, for viewing every day in the home pond, pattern is very important to personal enjoyment. I tend to fall for koi that have some unusual aspect to the patterning on the head.... a 'pretty face'. It adds interest. What I find a bit weird is that the face markings seem to affect how I perceive the personality of the fish. Pattern creates the abstract art to which each person reacts in their own way.

Here is an example I will use to help explain with some sff koi. THe blocked out pattern like koi on left needs to progress to center pattern with my wish pattern to right.
There is one problem. I am not the only one thinking this way it seems.

Send those 'boring' classic patterned koi my way! I personally like simple and classic patterns in Kohaku.

I am installing my biggest appliance challenge yet..a wall unit ac. I would give anything for your help.
I ordered 6 kohaku from the West coast, sff koi.
I feel pretty good about the white with these koi.
I feel pretty good about beni color for future development.
So I went simple block classic patterns just to make the order simple.
I can't tell one from the other.
Now my eye is drifting towards the need of something with interest.

The new wall units are so much smaller now with equal or better btu ratings than ever so wood working becomes a must to fill in the little bugger but it is now working and looking fine thanks Garfield.

I see now after a little kohaku checking that interesting designed beni plates are in huge demand. I not only am banging heads with the Japanese culling experts but the West Coast sharp eyed population which really narrows down the field for us East Coasters.
To do it right, I need to book a trip to Japan. I know enough now, I think I could do so much better. Shipping is through the roof but what else is new
