    Yes, but .... the vast majority of koi are produced en masse, including all those tosai exported from Japan in bulk to dealers all around the world.

    Which is why I say the aeromonas from hell may just be around us but simply latent because our koi are typically kept in much less crowded conditions. They are kept in relative mansions over shanty town conditions that are vectors for disease.

    Even so, one can hardly compare the care of koi fry and tosai to aquaculture. Healthy and kicking to koi, plumped up and fed for weight and immediate profits for aquaculture. Go to a koi farm and go to an aquaculture operation. Day and night.
