Only questions, do you show your fish?

What would the number of anticipated fish entries be?

There must be a huge following of koi enthusiasts in the states to keep that number of suppliers fed and watered all year round.

There are 51 or 52 tanks for show entries, with 18 being 8' diameter for large koi and the rest 6' diameter. There is no predicting the number of entries in advance. There are generally only 2 or 3 in the 8' tanks because folks want their big gals to have plenty of room. There can be a lot more in the 6' tanks if folks bring smaller koi. There is no organized tosai grow-out or similar activity this year, so I expect around 200 entries. (May have as many goldfish entries in that show.) There is no sweepstakes award or other incentive to bring a lot of fish. We encourage people to show, but not just to boost numbers.

CFK&GS is very popular with vendors, even though the travel cost to Florida creates a hurdle. Only 4 of the vendors are from the greater Orlando area, 2 of whom are artists. Over half must devote a day to travel from out-of-state to attend. To keep things sane, we limit the number of koi dealers. There are a half-dozen on the wait list for next year. If a dealer does not return other than due to a health or other really good reason, their space goes to someone on the wait list and they have to wait for an opening to come back. If there is a good reason for not being able to come, they are able to return without being waitlisted. Now that the goldfish show has built up a following, we are taking care not to have too many. We want all the vendors to do well so they return year after year, while having koi of all sorts, in all price ranges for attendees to purchase. So, there will be home-bred koi for $5 and less, and koi priced over $2,000. There is enough competition to keep prices fair for customers, but not so much that nobody can cover their costs.

I always enter koi. I have not decided which I will take this year, except I'm hoping a particular Kohaku is looking good. She took Best Kohaku last year (making her something like #5 among Kohaku in the 'move-up' system. She has grown nicely and I think she could be competitive for a Best in Size. We'll see.

Many thanks for the informative reply and hope you do well with your entry fish and good weather prevails on the show days.

Some pics of your Kohaku and any of the others would be appreciated if you could find the time.

    Many thanks

    Garfield.
