Your a lucky man right now Keosan! Santa Cruz is definitly the right place to be, while Missouri,(Misery), has got to be the wrong place for sure! Hey Tonio, why don't you guys meet in Hawaii or something? Jen, stop peeing in the pond! The Koi don't swim in your toilet!

Friday when I got home from work, the fry pond was 95F... Ouch is right. Immediately got cold water going from the well. Temp was down to 88F by dark. Fry ponds are to shallow (30"). Big pond maintains 84F. Neighbors natural pond down the street is just downright cold to swim in. Mid 70s.

Heat index in Iowa was 105.

My big pond has stabilized at 90 degrees, it goes down to 86 at night. I have 40% of the pond covered by 100% shade block and Oaks shade the other half until noon.
I will be planting trees around the pond very soon in an attempt to provide afternoon shade by next year and overhead shade a few years later...I'm leaning toward Mulberry trees....I'll start a thread as I wish to have more opinions on this choice.
