Im looking for shower media. Heard about Cermedia but I would like to know those who have use it for some time the following:
    1. How durable is the material after 1 or more years of use?
    2. Can the media reduce nitrate levels below 5ppm. If so, would the flow rate of water to the media fast or slow
    3. Can the media be cleaned after some time with acids to bring back performance like sintered glass media?

a couple key points for using Cermedia ....
    1. good prefilter .... like RDF
    2. cleaning with strong hydrogen peroxide ( 7%) ....but usually a good rinse with water works when the prefilter is good.
    3. there have been a some batches that have been less durable ...but product shipping now seems very durable once in place

In the referenced thread I installed 8 cubic feet of Cermedia MP2C. Months later....mush. So I replaced it with matting cartridges made from fine Matala matting. For nitrification it works very well. The water goes through sieves and then the shower.

    Let the shower restacking begin...

I specifically wrote to Cermedia a few months ago and asked if the formula was changed or the firing procedure was changed. That answer I got back was .....nothing has changed. So you still take a roll of the dice ordering MP2C for a shower.

This spring I will start the transition to H-1 media. It looks like the original small Bakki House Media. The H-1 rods are 40mm x 165mm (1.5" x 6.5") The reason for the attempted return to ceramic media is I want both nitrification and de-nitrification (mineralization) to happen in the shower. In the matting cartridges there are no hidden low O2 pockets for denitrification bacteria to flourish.
Koi keeping is not a belief system; it is applied science with a touch of artistry.
