Jnorth: Excellent! The fish do look better in blue. The reflection of blue onto the white makes the fish look better than they are. The black bowl seems to cause the least amount of reflected color, but gives a flat tone to the colors.

Luke: I seem to recall an article about the pre-war (pre-plastic) competitions among neighboring rice farmers in Niigata where it was mentioned that the fish were in canvas tanks. But, cannot be sure what was meant due to translation issues ... the blue show tanks of today are referred to as canvas tanks in contemporary translations, which could be a hold-over from times past when actual canvas was used, or simply an idiomatic error (like: "breed" being used to mean "raise" not "spawn". )
