    Proper KOI measurement technique ????

From head to what part of the tail? Spread or closed?

last bit......and I would say I have seen it done both ways...but it should be open.....usually those "closing" the tail are trying to see how much they have added to the fish since the last time they measured.

Girth has always been a problem with getting and accurate measurement. But you always see the Japanese press the tail joint against the measuring tub wall.

What about measuring girth using the amount of water the koi displaces? Weighing koi is not common practice correct?

Actually weighing is not common practice, but would IMO be the best measure to record the growth of a koi. By putting a koi into a plastic bag, then stand on a scale, note the weight and subtracting your own weight would do the trick.

One very positive thing about knowing the weight of your koi is that you can calculate the amount of food you are giving your koi compared to the weight. I think many koi keepers have not a clue if they are feeding their koi too much or too little.
