    Hello Kai, welcome to KB.

Looks quite nice. How old is the pond? How many koi? What is the overall depth? Would you mind going over your filtration system with us? How big is the K-1 chamber, how many litres are you using? That's some DIY set up... how do you find it's up-keep?

    Kind Regards,
    Terri

    Thanks for the nice welcome!

    Hi Terry,

The pond was build in 2002 and the new filtration system in May 2005. I have 9 Koi in the size from 50-70cm. The pond is 1,85m depth. The k1 chamber is filled with 150Liter K1.

The water flow from the 3 Bottomdrains to the first chamber. There are 7 trays covered with mosquito screens, to catch the long algae, excement and leaves. The 2nd chamber are filled with brushes on a tray, so it’s very easy to clean. Than the K1-Chamber and at least for the fine filtration with 70 cartridges covered with foamed material.

    The pumps perform 25000Liter/perhour.

I clean every 7 days the first chamber and all 3 weeks the biological chambers. I have very clean cristall water without a UVC.

    Wilkommen Kai

I like your pond and DIY filtration. I'm just wondering, how did you waterproof the underlayment you used to build your filter?

welcome and thanks for posting. You have a very nice system....( that's german engineering for ya!) LOL!

was there a reason why you chose k-1 as your filtration media?

    Kai,

Thanks much for the invitation. If I travel to Germany again, I will try to come by.... I used to work for Siemens, a German company back in 90. I am now in the States. I am not a German, but enjoy Oktoberfest and love "die knackwurst".
