    A. Dinh,
Not to offend but maybe the other way around that there was no competition at the show that non-gosanke at that size could win a GC.
    congrats to Kim & Vaughn!

That sounds more like the facts. Last year Vaughn and Kim won with a similar sized ginrin Showa. Doesn't sound like that show is that prestigous anymore. Maybe we can get some respect up north after the ABAKS. Finally, a NorCal show with some SoCal respect!? We'll see!!

    Koiczar,
I believe All Bay Area Koi Show will be one of the prestigious shows in West Coast and of course CFKS in East Coast IMHO.

I know Jan T joined the AKCA Judging program and was assigned to the San Diego show.

Hopefully, she can shed some light on what would appear to be a rather unusual outcome for a show expected to have several hundred koi entered. I would expect it will be an interesting story.

All I can say is that if people dont bring out the fish you can only respect what the results will be. 23" Shiro? Well anything can happen my friends....Congrats to the Monis for winning. I do know they have a 25" Showa somewhere that could have beat out their own Shiro...

I think anytime a shiro irregardless of it's size can edge out a gosanke for grand champ it must have been an extremely nice koi. congrats to the owners for working with that koi to bring it to where it could win such an award.

congrats to the judges for not being afraid to make such a decision. It could have been very easy to tap a bigger gosanke and not be questioned. ( I have to admitt I'm anxious now to see a picture!)

If you don't go to a show and support it because it's not big enough or prestigious, it will be a self fullfilling phophesy that it will gain no recognition.
I have been to a few california shows big and small and each was worth the
    flight from seattle....

    Hard to do...

We all know how hard it is to put on a good show. Some years are better than others, right? Wasn't the show co-inciding with a garden show? Sometimes that can be a more difficult venture to work in. Congrats to all winners, and we're all glad when people go to the effort of bringing Koi in to a show!
