Little surprise for me when I got back from ABAKS

So I got home this morning from a long trip out to the west coast. Figured I'd go out and clean filters and do water changes etc. So I looked in the skimmer first to clean it out and what do I find? 36 toads!!! 25 of them were actually alive. What a mess. Oh yeah I updated my website.

Its toad spawning season and you missed all the action. Bufo go into the water to mate. It's possible that there is/was only one female and all the rest are males. Sometimes you find a mass of toads as large as a soccer ball - all clinging to each other. In the center of the mass is the female with layers of males vying for her favors. Did you find the stings of eggs, or did the fish eat them?

Take a close look at the pic. It was full of eggs as well as toads. You can see the eggs dangling out of the basket. The settlement tank had its fair share of eggs as well. Fortunately the settlement did its job and I flushed all the eggs out.

That's several times the most I've had in the skimmer at one time! ....check leaf strainers on all pumps. They have a way of getting the ones you thought least likely could happen.

Great picture but why are some of the toads playing piggy-back?
