    68cm sansai

    Another 'rip off' jumbo tosai.
Buyer beware of jumbo tosai, they are a waste of money!
And both bought at auction at that!

I love this ... An Aussie English speaker asking a British English speaker to explain the meaning of his American trash talk. And the hole time the Malaysians understand every word.

Maurice, you make everything look good. Thanks for the pics. Could you throw up some pages of progress on the farm? Kinda hangin with the glass crew half done.

There's another thread about some members saying that buying jumbo tosai is a waste of money. Maurice is just enlightening the others of what he has purchased as jumbo tosai and as sansai are now 70cm and 68cm respectively.

Kevan: "Rip-off" is American slang. It is derived from describing a sneak thief as having "ripped it off of me". When used as a noun or adjective, it indicates grossly over-priced goods or services a person is tricked or lured into buying. Now, in the context it was used by Maurice, you have to understand his sense of humor. It is widely observed that most jumbo tosai are simply large tosai, not necessarily any better than the little ones not grown rapidly over the winter. When folks pay $1,000 for a jumbo tosai that's no better than the $100 small tosai just because of the jumbo hype, it is a rip-off. They've been tricked/lured into paying a lot more than the fish was worth. But, there are quality fish that are grown to "jumbo" size. A breeder with the facilities will give the best tosai the best conditions, and they will grow. I think Maurice's point was that the photos show there are jumbo tosai worth a high price. It is all about the quality of the individual fish and gaining the knowledge to understand what you are seeing when looking at a young koi. The jumbo label is not the place to focus.
