True...I tried to overwinter indoors last year. Probably the biggest mistake of my koi-keeping life!!! Chronic infections..and tons of water quality issues. I will never do that again...lost too many excellent koi.

    I am curious -

I am stopping feeding, Their feces is starting to float, so NO more food, I dont want the food to rot in their stomach anymore.

Koi dont really have a stomach, just a really long intestine. So when you feed a real high protein diet, it will rot inside the intestine, and could ultimately kill the koi. Feeding wheat germ prevents this from happening, I believe..

I am 62F and still feeding most days. Lighter amounts, and lighter in the protein.

wet/damp the pellets before feeding as you previously suggested. I don't plan to switch from hi protein to wheat germ when temp drops in 50's this year.

wheat germ suppose to help the digestion during winter months.

Over here in Old England we've finally got a cold spell starting.Stopped feeding three days ago (due to long range weather forecast) and last night pond temps dropped into the forties.First air frost last night and a cold north wind due for the rest of the week at least.

They may get a bit of wheatgerm during a warm spell depending on the long range forecast as I've got zero algae in the new pond.

Yesterday afternoon we had a massive hailstorm, and last night we experienced our first frost of the season. Water temperatures have dropped to 50F. I feed only once every other day.
