    Happy by Ray Jordan

    Ray,
I enjoyed your article titled "Happy, the Cinderella Koi Story" in the Nov/Dec issue of KOI USA. It just shows that maybe it is possible to buy a great fish without taking out a second mortgage on your house. In brief a tiny fry purchased at 3-days for under $1 went on to great things at the ALL Japan Young Koi show. Neat story.

    Hi Mitch,
Glad you enjoyed the story. It brought a big grin to my face when it was told to me. Thought it would be a fun story for others to hear. Miracles do happen. Someone will buy a ticket in th enext few days and actually win the lottery. It is the same dream that drives many to buy young koi and then pray they will become a cinderella koi.

One of the quiet unassuming pioneers in american koi, Eddie Fujimoto, who started koi USA lived that story himself. He bought a tiny 2-3 inch Hariwake
that under his care grew up to take many accolades and awards in shows in california.

For those not familar with the man, would be good to know who he is. World War 2 veteran, was active in koi on the west coast, moved to Washington state to retire. Helped start and help foster many clubs in the area.

My advice is to buy 300 lottery tickets instead. Much less work. The odds of hitting a major lottery jackpot are very very low but still likely much higher odds that buying baby koi and raising one to become a major award winner of a top show.
