    indoor lights

Many of us "up north" keepers are stuck with having fish come inside for the winter. Besides trying to provide enough water and enough heat, I'd like to supply enough light. There are no show fish here, but I can't see the sense in wrecking what I have or diminishing their potential.

Like Auntie Sue, I have looked in FarmTek's catalogue and seen metal halide fixtures, but don't know how well they would help. Mainly what I'm missing is the understanding of what is needed- what type of light, how much, how to supply it and how to control it. If I knew that I could get it, right?

Is there anyone who knows how to do this?

    Micky,
If I had my fish in the garage, like Sue, I'd put in a solar tube which collects the natural sunlight in a reflective tube and directs it into the room. most home centers have them.

Great idea Jim, a little more info on the solar tube:

In my garage I have 3 fluorescent fixtures and I'm using 2 of each of these bulbs, the kois color stays good all winter (cooler water helps with that as well). I have them set on a timer from 7a - 7p:
