I need to get a fish from Richard. I love american-bred koi but don't have any from richard or Purdin. I hope to get a Purdin koi at SKE.
I'm using a Kodak Z650, a hybrid type of digital that is somewhat like a 35mm. Still a little slow on the focus end of things, but I'm still learning how to wield it. Those scale close ups were taken from 10' away....

Yes, yes you do have to get a fish from Richard. Or two. Or three! I couldn't stop....

My name is Marie and I am a SJKoi kohaku junkie....

*glances sneakily around and passes a BIG baggie and a tube of tangerine lip gloss to Cindy*

Time to go fishing....

Oh, you have no idea what a koi junkie I am!!! I am learning how to control my self though. My first summer after the pond was done (2005) I bought a LOT of fish. I bought almost everything that I saw that looked half-way decent was was cheap. Then I learned better. Last summer I think I only got maybe 3 tosai from Matt, a few tosai from Brady and the shiro. I think this year I'll only buy 2 nice ones and quit. Or maybe 3. or 4.

Famous last words...

Then I am in very good company. I did that back in '99, and you should see that first pond with the gazillion tosai that never had a chance in 18" of water and no filtration.

I think it is because of going through so many that our tastes have changed from fish sticks to caviar--like just about everyone on this board, we've studied everything we've been able to bag up and take home like an OCD patient. Gotta get this one. And this one. And this one....

Koi junkies all!

I know my taste sure has changed!! My first "koi pond" was a 1200 gallon watergarden with a skippy filter that got cleaned once a year. It was full of mostly speckled koi and some goldies. How those poor fish survived is beyond me!! I kept one just as a reminder. He is dwarfed by fish 1/3 of his age.

It's so hard to go to koi shows and not bring home fish. When I went to the KHA seminar in buffalo, I just HAD to try. So I got a small hi utsuri and put him in my carry-on bag. Isn't that terrible? I got it BAD!!!

yep....I had 2 small orandas in another bag in my carry-on too! I had a friend drive me to the airport and wait until I made it through security with them. If I couldn't get the fish on the plane, she was going to take them home with her. My carry-on shoulder bag was kind of heavy.

See, Joe! You've got to at least carry a man-bag with you on the plane to get those beauties home from Japan.
