    Sue,
What type of KHV testing will the wet vendors be required to do in order to get the KHV free certificate? Does this mean each and every 6" koi will have to be tested? I see problems with this giving a false sense of security.

We understand that KHV testing is not 100%, but we are trying to start a trend with wet vendors that we feel many clubs should be asking for. Not every fish must be tested. If a sampling can be taken from several fish within the same shipment, that will suffice. We would prefer serology testing (blood draw) or if the vendor can produce a "history" of testing showing that he/she is attempting to control this virus, that also will suffice. There will be handouts at our club table (and vendor booths) warning about KHV and that testing is not 100% accurate and that they still should use proper Q-tank procedures. We realize we will get a lot of flack from the industry about this, but someone has to start somewhere to try to curb this disease. Our show is just a small start to that end. With warnings at every booth and handdouts to everone who purchases fish, I think we'll have the "sense of security" handled.

This is something that is inevitable we feel. Why not start with us? Many show personnel have already discussed this requirement. They just haven't put it into practice "yet".

Just think if every show made this a requirement, it would force dealers to test their fish routinely. We feel this would go a long way toward ending this virus. Granted the testing is still in its infancy, but it's all we've got right now so let's work with it until something better comes along. Just think of the ribble effect as well. If dealers that want to sell fish at shows and work toward name recognition at any show, how much pressure would that put on the research AND DONATIONS to solve this issue? Now isn't that something to think about?

The test is cheap and easy - why not?

...AND if a dealer is really thinking of the health of the fish and customer satisfaction, there is time to get it done as well. Fish should be rested and go through Q before sale. More than enough time to submit samples and get results!!
