Kodama lists Genjiro on his site. Same? Maybe.

Nice looking fish. I have the impression that some of the "second tier" names among Japanese breeders place some of their very best fish with Narita for auction to get the benefit of the Narita marketing and build their reputation. Not sure how accurate that impression is.

Very nice, indeed -- but rather finished for tosai don't you think?

Looks like many of them are show ready.

I was also under the impression that Gonjiro uses "pure" Sensuke bloodline for his kohaku. This was info I read on Kodama's site a couple years ago. He also breeds some very nice Kujaku but his fame is in kohaku and sanke.

You're correct. 2nd tier breeders do send their very best to Narita in hopes of making the first tier. I think Gonjiro is already making headway to that ladder rung. He just needs someone to display his wares at the All Japan level shows and win something like Kokugyo to really jump up in the marketplace. He does have some REALLY NICE STOCKS.

    For those that don't know......
Sensuke ( pronounced Sens-kay ) is a bloodline of kohaku that was known for it's large size, and solid stomach area as opposed to soft heavy female looking types from other bloodlines. It was criticised initially because the beni was very orange. Most modern day breeders have worked on it to maintain the body but redden the color. A prime example would be Sakai of hiroshima. There are a few hard core types that keep the bloodline untainted.
An example would be Iizuka (Ee-zoo-kaa ).

Matsunosuke ( Mots-sun-nos-kay) a bloodline mostly associated with Sanke.
Also known for it's large size and now with magoi bloodline, even larger. Best associated with toshio sakai-Isawa, who has now developed Maruzome (rounded scale red and black ) to his gosanke lines.

So when you look at this breeder, you can tell from the genetics he uses that his koi have the ability to grow big. Many modern day breeders use these bloodline to improve their own, including Momotaro and Sakai-hiroshima

Genjiro at Chiba Perf is acctually very famous but they are not only breeder but also dealer who mainly sale Sakai(H) fish around his area.

The left upper corner Sanke 44cm tosai on the left side picture is granddaughter of the famous Akamuji 113cm owned by Higashi-san, armature breeder.
Showas on the right side picture is all Dainichi blood line....they are all serious tategoi....
