There is a fine line on building this fish's body. I think a mix of koi food with more plant protein will help cleanup this male's(?) complexition.

i DON'T KNOW WHAT HOSOKAI IS USING FOR BLOODLINE. But I have watched him over the last 10 years really do a good job of breeding many color varieties after solely being known for asagi.

the koi's sumi to me is typical matsunosuke. It is true they grow long the first 3-4 years and then bulk. Most of the better koi of this bloodline take 7-8 years before you really know what you have from a quality/body shape standpoint.

I think another breeder, known for his shiro utsuri has done a marvelous job
of breeding kohaku and showa....Omosako.

I think knowledge of a bloodline is helpful but to much emphasis on a name can hurt your ability to recognize a truely good koi irregardless of who bred it....

I'm always attracted to Soragoi ... about as "plain jane" as a goi can get. Gotta get me one someday.

I have a Hosokai kohaku that must be a relative. She(he)'s about 65 cm, long and skinny, smooth pecs and gill covers. I had thought that she(he) was a male until we did a closer inspection. I'm still not sure, but anxiously awaiting some kind of sign.

Ok, I'll go out on a limb

Matsunoske bloodline and female. Try mixing in some HiSilk in the warmer months to help with the whites...about 2/3 wheategerm and 1/3 Hi silk.

Oh, and "pristine" water.
