There is a nice article written on this topic in the latest Koi USA mag. It's an intresting contradiction in some ways to what was said in this Thread and it was actually written by an expert (I should hope so!).

Oh, and remeber some time ago I questioned a article on flow rates and ammonia written by Spike Cover...well well well.....see the latest article. Seems I was confused for the right reasons!!

Erns . . .

Would you please be kind enough to identify which issues & articles you're talking about?

Yeah, as a contributing author to (and the Editor of) KoiUSA magazine I thought you might have an interest.

Ha! so Mr Childers...since you're writing a whole "series of Insights into Koi Pond Design" you must have sat back through this Thread and just smiled and grinned all the way! Sorry, did not make the connection but now that I know... Good article and keem em comming! See even in South Africa you've got some good fans! I'm looking forward to the next one! Love th mag too. I get them all and this is my favorite!

THe other article is by Joseph Cuny:Flow rates through filters reviewed. some time ago I posted my confusing about the original article by Spike Cover stating my confusion after what he wrote...guess I was not the only confused one out there:

Thanks Erns

I've read a lot of Joe's and spike's stuff over the years and frankly, I can get confused from some of Joe's stuff. I try and keep it a tad simpler

Upon further observation of my koi using the airdomes, I find that they are huddling, resting, and pooping in the one area that has the least flow. I dont have a TPR covering this area either. I quit feeding until I can get my flow problem resolved as poo sitting at the bottom of the pond cannot be a healthy thing

I have since set a timer to run the airdomes for a few hours a day to do the house keeping. Initially, without the air,the kois were really on edge like under seige but after a few days, they are clamer and doing the tour de pond. Next I shud do O2 test.
