ZEK, nice fish. I saw it tonight and it very nice. Going to be a large nice pattern koi. Can't wait to see it later.

I have a quick question about these and other showa I have seen. It seems to me that the pectoral fins on showa always seem to be smaller than on other types of koi. I am not thinking of any of the particular fish I have seen here, but rather in general.

Is this possible/true, or am I just being thrown off by the larger pattern maybe?

Gee, Ethan. I don't think I've ever seen a fish with shorter pec fins than your avatar fish (unless it's that sanke in Tonio's judging GC thread ). Seriously though, I think some Showa have a thick Utsuri conformation where the body gets fatter but the length doesn't keep up. This might make the pecs look smaller than they really are (kinda like not being able to see your toes if you have a generous girth).

And that's my unofficial and largely uneducated opinion on that subject.

Both are excellent points! That is the excuse on my mutt for sure....the width prevents you from seeing the pecs well. From the side, they look fine....

I see what you are talking about with the utsuri conformation. Even as tosai, showa seem to be "full of it".

    Thanks,
    Ethan
