This may be self evident, but KHV outbreaks will be expected during the spring season, (i.e. March April) as the tosai are collected and the older koi harvested in the fall are sold and transport to warmer climates, stress and warmer waters trigger outbreaks. A critical time in our yearly purchasing cycles.

Sad......... but oh so true!

Small correction here: I see Sharon hijacked my computer, she said she only purchases koi from INC, however we also purchase from Quality Koi. The point to be made, know your source and understand how they deal with bio-security. Yes we still put our koi through QT, as Sharon states-6 weeks, new purchases and/or de-bugging after a koi show. Cautious is the name of the game and has been for us now for three years.

I've known Joel now for close to eight years and Zak a few years less. Have shown at the Nazomi Young Koi Show a couple of times. Bio Security at Pan Intercorp is top notch and and Joel/Zak follow a very strict regimen at their facility. Hats off to Joel for his efforts and we all should feel gratitude for Joel's straight forward announcement. I can only imagine the financial hit this potentially could cause, lets hope after testing all is well. Good luck to you Joel,--Dan

Joel is setting the standard here! I've purchased several fish from him and will again just as soon as this situation is behind him. Talk about a class act!

I find it very sad to see posts on another board (one that is generally supportive of rocks in ponds), which loosely refer to Joel's 'source' of KHV, as if there was KHV at Joel's facility. Maybe there is, and maybe there isn't. Joel made disclosure that he is doing what it takes to make a determination.

I consider such posting irresponsible. Serious matters deserve serious thought before blathering one's rambling thoughts on the internet. And, it is certainly counter-productive for those desiring more open disclosure about KHV detection. If the koi community is irresponsible in its handling of such a straight-forward disclosure as Joel made, fostering rumor and innuendo, then disclosures will not occur.

That is the least offensive part of HAH's post imho. He also implies that Joel and TNFF may have somehow conspired together to time their news releases in order to cover their backsides, and then has the stupid audacity to question Joel's leadership in Shinkokai. It is grossly dishonest and disingenuous for him to speculate such lunacy against a solid businessman who has handled everything in a completely forthright manner.
His kind of slander only adds to the division that exists within the Koi v. rockheaded pond builders and does nothing to add value to this discussion or the hobby in general.

I've heard which breeder. This is going to rock the industry in Japan big time. I'm very curious to see how they think they got it as this breeder NEVER brings any koi from other sources onto the farm. I'm not going to speak out of term but they will post a report soon. This is terrible news!

Are you saying Sakai is the breeder with KHV? Is there any comfirmation of this? If true, this is very bad news indeed.
