    All Japan Koi Show

We're planning a trip to Japan and I want to be there for the 2010 All Japan Koi Show. I can't seem to find any information on the show, other than the 2008 show results and pictures. First, I would like to know if the public is allowed to visit the show to see the fish, second, are the breeders also selling fish at the show, third, when and where will it be?

Does anyone know of any good websites that would have information about the show?

    Cheers

You going the ZNA All Japan Show (in Q4?) or the Shikokai's All Japan Combined Show in Q1? Either would be a hoot!!!

Don't see any info about either in 2010 yet.

    Wow! What's the difference?

Are these shows usually in February?

The ZNA show judges are ZNA certified judges.

The Shikokai show has breeders entering fish owned by their customers from all over the world. That is how the last GC was owned by an American. The judging is done by Shikokai members and persons invited by Shinkokai.

This poster is about the GC and the American owner...

I would guess that the 2010 All Japan Show will still be held at the Ryutsu Centre in Tokyo.

It's normally around the last weeked of January, I would guess that the dates will be 29th-31st.

Set up of the show starts on Wednesday, you'll find many of Japan's leading breeders all mucking in setting up vats etc.

Nishikigoi arrive through the day on Thursday, an interesting time to visit.

Friday is judging day and not open to the public.

Saturday the show opens at 9am and closes at 6pm (off the top of my head)

Sunday is presentation day. The show opens around 9am, the presentation starts around 11.30am.

Debenching starts pretty much straight after the end of the presentation, around 1pm.

You won't find Koi for sale, there are a few trade booths normally just displaying items and distributing literature.

Any further questions don't hesitate to ask.

In addition to Mark's comments, many visitors will go on then to visit individual breeders after the show to purchase fish.

Fujio Oomo, a relatively new breeder focused on showa, speaks excellent english and can be hired to act as quide. Might want to get in touch with him to make arraingements for a breeder's tour.

Thanks for the information! I would love to have a breeder's tour while I'm there! A friend of mine who lives in Japan right now gave me a website: Koi.com - Pan Intercorp: Quality Pond Grade Koi, Tategoi & Grand Champions to ask about the dates. I was told that the dates for the 2010 show haven't been decided on yet and that they would be posted there when they decide. I'll have to keep checking.

All this information has given me a great idea of the time of year we will be there so I can plan some non-koi tours and activities...although the koi are the biggest attraction for me!

    Thanks again!
