    Are there any chagoi?

    Hi there,

I'm interested in picking up some butterfly koi from this dealer and I wanted to know if there were any chagoi in the koi he was offering. I wasn't sure if the orange ones could be orange chagoi? Hehe. I want my koi to be friendly.

    Thanks!

What are the orange ones and are they braver? I guess I always thought the solid colored ones then to be the bravest.

these orange ones would be Kohaku/Aka Muji or Orange ogon.

    Quit thinking "Chagois are friendly"
    they are not.
Chagois are heavily culled based on their ability to be a big strong koi when they mature. A Kohaku will be kept for many reasons.
Chagoi need to eat to feed their genetically-programmed metabolism...therefore they take risks and lust for food...
they are not freindly... Feed em all they can handle and they won't say, "booh" to you.
You can get "freindly" in any koi variety..it is just more common in a variety where so much attention is given to size and shape and little else, as well as their being a higher percentage of "keepers' to cull from.

BTW long-fins are half ditch minnow, generally they are a little more goosey than koi, but some have the Hybrid trait to grow big and those will be willing to risk being around you in order to fill their gut...as you say, "friendly"
