Bern . . .

valid points, all.

Thank you for sharing your observations which will, hopefully, serve to restore some sorely needed balance to this thread. Don

One more thing to remember that long before Pat Morita's success in Hollywood, he was the son of immigration fruit pickers in the farm fields of California. He and his family were forced into the World-War II Internment Camp in California when he was 2 years old.......

Pat Morita was the original proprietor of the local hamburger stand (Al's) in Happy Days. An actor whom I enjoyed very much in many movies and television appearances.

I've not seen any UK koi in person so it is difficult to comment only from pictures. However, I know of many world class koi in the US that have yet to be shown, for many reasons. Most of the ones I know about did not come from any "koi dealers" rather straight from the breeding farms.

Although Native Texan through and through (with a bunch of Japanese influence from my childhood in Japan), I surely want to see UT lose a ball game and thier chance at a national title, Come On USC!

Oh, btw, I'm an Aggie. The good Ags sure played a strong game last Friday, even though they lost they surprised everybody, even me, with thier performance. I shoulda took that forty point spread I was offered.

Almost as good for me to see Texas lose as to see A&M win.

Jim you are so right with Dan & Gene's koi. All of them are from Infiltration.

Do other dealers in the UK have as nice of koi as Infiltration?
I don't think you can single out Mike Snaden from Yumekoi who has been winning a lot of the top awards in recent years in the U.K.

Interesting

First off, NONE of the dealers, US or otherwise import Top Quality Koi without already having a buyer. I am talking BIG dollar Koi...mid 5+ digits. What they will do is take the buyers to Japan to purchase, or look for suitable pieces for their customers and do the transactions via email prior to the actual purpose. To do this, it takes a lot of trust for the buyer and the dealer!
Bern puts alot into perspective in regards to geograqphical differences and concentrations of hobbyists...makes a huge difference. Many Americans have won major awards at UK and European shows as well. Ed Aremia as an example has won the Holland show on numerous occasions (of course he lives there ).
Dan and Gene have won some major awards at the BKKS National as well. Heck, I even won an award back in 2000 at the National .

Wouldn't it be great to see 10 - 20 of the GC from the west and east coasts (and all parts in between) at the same US show?

If you can get the big girls from both coasts to frolic in Nashville '06, then you'll be known as "Stevie Wonder" 'till the end of your days! Good Luck, Don

Logistics

I am working on some logistics for long range shipping for those interested in showing Koi at the Koiphen Koi Nationals but are too far away to drive. It would be nice to have representatives from across the country and I hope to get some "incentives" that would entice exibitors as well.

As for being "Stevie Wonder", some people already think that if given 1 good eye, I'd qualify as a cyclops

What will be some of the prizes for the show? I mean besides trophies....Since this is an independant show, will the great koiphenator be giving out free trips to Japan for GC?
