Outside Where to take it when you just can't be civil anymore...for threads that have become a little "too much" for our regular koi forum.

Heh... that's gotta be about the worst advertising campaign I've ever seen.

Thumbs down

sheesh, how did this one get dragged to the outside??? what is going on with this board, it used to be such a place with educated and enlightening people. The diesel truck board that I go to now has less trash talk. I dunno but some people should really considder what they are doing to a very fine forum, Brian has worked tirelessly for a long time with few thanks or cash to show for it and we treat him in this manner? Disgracing his board to a level that gets an unpacking fish thread taken to outside the main forum???

Thanks Mike,

It really made my day that someone realizes this. I sometimes get the feeling that people don't, but you need and that gives a bit of solace.

No disrespect intended at all Brian, but there are two sides of this. I have done more than my fair share of participating in these battles, but it's often because I see people saying things that are nasty or hurtful towards me directly, or people I respect and consider friends.

And you know what? I don't feel particularly guilty about it, either. You make these pleas to the membership of the site to keep things civil, but people like MUISHOND are not ever going to respect you or your site. No amount of pleading is going to stop random trolls from coming in and looking for a fight - it's human nature.

But more importantly, no amount of pleading is going to stop people from responding when they are insulted, taunted, and provoked. You ask us to show you some respect and stop the fighting, but what about respect for those of us who are constantly on the recieving end of pot shots and thinly veiled insults?

It boils down to this - if you are going to refuse to moderate the site, you're going to have people instigating. And as long as people are able to take random shots at others, knowing it will be a day before any action is taken, if any is taken at all, they are going to use this forum as a venue to make their personal attacks. And as long as people are allowed a venue to attack others, those who are attacked, and their friends, are probably going to choose to respond.

You have a wonderful ideal - appeal to a person's sense of civility to maintain order. Unfortunately, in the real world that is simply not going to work. Frankly, I find it somewhat disrespectful of you to tell people to stop defending themselves when you refuse to do anything about the constant barrage of attacks on them.

I've said it many times - the only solution to this is moderation. How you want to enact that moderation is completely up to you. But please, stop playing the victim and asking people to play nice - I'm not about to play nice with people who use this forum as their own personal shooting gallery to take shots at my friends. I'd rather have my posts deleted once in a while than be told to play nice with the internet bullies.

Okay, fair enough point. I've already done some banning today, and will have to be a bit more active in moderation now. I hope that should it come to you getting "into it" again with an instigator that you stand by your claim about preferring your posts be deleted when they cross the line, rather than being told to "play nice".

I strongly encourage you to get some volunteer moderators (NOT people like me!) to help you out with it - I do realize the site is a big drain on your time and I am NOT saying you don't do enough for us. Shouldering the whole load yourself is way too much. You have a great community here and I'm sure you can find two or three active members who will keep an eye out for troublemakers while trying to remain fair and unbiased.

I would like to volunteer myself Brian, as a person that knows some of my posts can be troublesome to you. So if I post something that causes you headaches, please just delete it or change it and if I don't understand I will pm you.
