I think has been a great thread
Learning a lot sitting here reading and that is what this whole photo thing was about.
Although SH's shiro has the "classic" pattern, comparing these fish by pictures Henry's Martha outshines the other.
and this all works hand in hand with our recent shiro grow out picking. with the two I got, conformation and size was really off from what the guess was.
all very fasinating.

I saw Steve H's shiro when he showed her, she was impressive.
but here we are comparing pictures and in the pictures I think Martha wins.
However, having seen SH's shiro makes me REALLY want to see Martha in person!

For the Record:

I did not start this thread; it's a C & P of selected posts from another thread and is 'attributed' to me in name only.

"the photo judging will end soon and neither of these 2 koi may end up w/the top prize."

Really? I haven't seen any thing on the submission thread that could beat these two fish? These fish are jumbo high class animals. I did see a few hot gosanke ( showas and kohaku) that were very nice- crisp and vivid. But they are much smaller fish and in the case of a few- males.
These shiro's are 30 inch plus fish! And with killer bodies. Pretty hard to trump that fact.

One fish has slightly better body line than the other.
One fish has a hard shiro and the other a soft shiro and one of these traits is considered superior.
One fish has better sumi than the other
The pattern doesn't matter much in the great scheme of things on fish this size.

The reason body and volume is so important on fish of this size ( and age) is because it is so rare and hard to maintain.
Likewise, elements like soft skin are most desirable as they set the fish off and the colors that surround it become more three dimensional.
That , in a nut shell, is the definition of superior Jitai.

Steve,
I don't get it. Were you banned from the shows? Did you inquire about why you cannot enter the said show? Now that it is out in the open. Maybe the show chairman or organization involve in these two show should answer your question as to why you were not allowed to join the show?

I think the only way to settle it, is to have the fish compete in a real show. Pics are pics...
