Continuous Filtration System: Size? vs Pond Size

Using a multi chamber, in line filtration system, what would be a minimum size to shoot for if the pond were say 5000 gals?

I am thinking 500 gals as a minimum...?

    Comments please...

Probably you have not had an answer yet as just the gallonage of the filter is only part of the solution. Another big factor is the type(s) and amount of media used...not to mention aeration.

For example a Nexus with K1 as the media should do a 5,000 gallon pond just fine connected to the bottom drain. I use a Nexus on each of our two BDs each doing roughly 5000 gallons.

Of course there is still the skimmer line. On our skimmer line I use to DIY bakki showers.

Remember you can't over filter or over aerate.
Koi keeping is not a belief system; it is applied science with a touch of artistry.

So true MCA. I realized after posting my question that there probably wasn't a quick and simple answer. Too many other variables to really consider.

As I'm in the planning stages for my second pond, I still haven't made any final decisions on some aspects of the design yet. Just trying to get my head around a good design at this point.

Once I'm a little futher along, hopefully any questions I propose will sound a little more intelligent .

For one thing, filtration and aeration will be plenty !

    Thanks MCA for your kindness.
