I don't really know what you mean...

    What is a SD?

If I use the es2500 that's on my large tank, and put it on the show tank (which would be overkill) what am I going to use for the large tank?

I am not sure I get what you are trying to say.

I spell wrong SC ( settling chambers ) BIO and TT. your 6' tank 670 full.
But you to leave 2" below it's only 635 or less. SC+BIO take 35% of your pump. TT will take 65% of pump. That i can tell you time for you test and learn.
check on birdman test tank you will know what taking about.

I don't think you get it...

I am NOT taking the ES pump and putting it on the show tank. I NEED it for my large tank.

I am just looking to have a sub pump on the 6' tank for time being, just need to figure out the filtration.

Pay for one now, or 2 later?

Why would I need to buy 2 later?

The sub pump will be used elsewhere once I am done using it for this show tank. So it's not like I am just buying it for the hell of it, I would have to buy it eventually anyways.

    I just don't understand...

If I take my ES pump off of my large tank, what am I going to use for my large tank? I don't need to buy another ES pump, therefore I am not going to.

If you plane to buy sub pump for 6' tank 670 gallon you will need ES1500 pump that for sure yes.
