    toxic metals

i am buiding a new pond its 8x15 and goes from 2 feet to five feet in the bottom with a bottom drain in the deep end. will have a spray bar in the shallow end creating a river like affect hopefully. the filtration will be an ERIC i seen yall love those! lol my question is i have an arbor with a roof. i was going to put a metal roof on it with a spray bar so it will look like it is raining in the pond. are there any bad affects of this roof to the koi i should look out for?

    thanks

All metal roofs/frames are not created equally so details matter.

If we're talking about raw Galvanized or Galvalum stop dead in your tracks. While both are quite weather resistant they do oxidize and the oxides of zinc, aluminum, magnesium, etc... are not going to be kind to your water or especially your Koi.

If we're talking about factory painted (usually baked on finish) you are probably fine. They oxidize very slowly and you should be able to get enough details about the paint solids to find out if anything about a particular brand or color is problematic.

Happy to help. Bear in mind as you investigate materials and paint colors that many pigments are metallic and can influence your choices.
